What is the popular Thai traditional sarong fabric?

Industry News-

The fabric of traditional tube skirts in Thailand is mainly made of Thai silk (double cocoon silk), which has the following characteristics:
Raw materials and processes
Using silkworm double palace cocoons as raw materials, their high gum content leads to the formation of concave and convex nodules on the surface of the silk strips. By combining traditional manual spinning with modern technology, a unique texture of knots is formed.  ‌
Texture and Characteristics
The fabric has a hard and thick texture, weighing 45-60g/m ² (conventional silk is 18-25g/m ²), with a single filament diameter 30% -40% thicker than conventional raw silk, a color fastness of over level 4, and a wrinkle resistance index 20% higher than conventional silk.  ‌
Structure and Clothing
The tube skirt adopts a cylindrical structure, which is fixed at the waist by pulling on the right side and folding on the left side. Traditional production takes one month per square meter. This structure creates a unique shape of natural sagging and three-dimensional folds in the fabric when worn.  ‌
Application scenarios
It is mainly used for royal celebrations, traditional festivals, and important ceremonial occasions, such as kneeling in wedding ceremonies, monk ordination ceremonies, etc. It is still preserved in the collection of palace embroidered tube skirts at the National Museum of Bangkok in modern times.  ‌
